Owner of 2014-2017 Ford Focus have complained frequent transmission problems. A class action was filed and owners may be entitled to compensation.
Here are some typical complaint from Ford Focus owners.
Constant transmission problems even with repairs, the car will lag, sputter and rolls backward. “Hard shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. Clutch replaced 4 times issue occurring again. Causes car to jump forward during the shift. It has almost caused numerous accidents. I leave 1 car space between the car in front of me at complete stops and me just in case the transmission shifts hard. It was happening for a few days after purchase in 2014 to present.”
Major Transmission Issues”! Warning & buyer beware: this vehicle is not safe to drive and has an open claim under the states lemon law policy. On 7/22/17 after multiple repairs as stated in this complaint, the vehicle propelled forward behind traffic on a major roadway at a railroad stop towards the gates with an oncoming train. Reported the incident to Ford and Ford will not cover the repairs. The transmission needs to be replaced on this vehicle and has had multiple clutch replacements at Ford. There have been approximately 18 service visits at the dealership since the delivery date of 12/15/15. Onboard sync system does not work properly after multiple repairs. Ford service manager has warned that the transmission issues are not repairable, and the issues will continue to occur despite clutch and transmission repairs.”
“The contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. When initially starting the vehicle, it failed to accelerate and made a noise as if it were forcing the engine to go into gear. When the vehicle reached 40 mph, it drove smoothly. The failure occurred for approximately twelve days. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.”
“Sometimes while accelerating the car will randomly go from 2k rpm to over 6k rpm but you cant hear the engine and it loses power and starts to jerk violently. Once you release gas and the rpm’s go back down to 2k then you can try to accelerate again. I thought this issue was just because it was cold the 1st time it happened but now it is happening more frequently. I’ve only had this car for little under a year and it has less than 20k miles on it.”

I have a 2017 Ford Focus having the same clutch, transmission and rpm issues as the 2014, 2015, 2016 models. I’ve already had to have a clutch put in it. When I bought the car brand new from the Ford dealership, the salesman said, “If it starts jumping on ya, that’s the transmission and it’s supposed to do that.” There isn’t a link listed for the 2017 Ford Focus’s. How can I get help with my 2017?
