Details: TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WITH A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SHE NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATING, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THE PASSENGER MUST BE AT LEAST 70 POUNDS FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG TO FUNCTION; THEREFORE, IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR WHENEVER SMALLER PASSENGERS WOULD SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE FAILURE WOULD ALSO INTERMITTENTLY RECUR WHEN AVERAGE SIZED ADULTS WOULD SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

Details: TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 GMC ACADIA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55MPH IN RAINY WEATHER, THE VEHICLE HYDRO-PLANED. THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. A CHILD WAS IN THE SECOND ROW OF THE VEHICLE SECURED IN A CHILD RESTRAINT BEHIND THE DRIVER SEAT. THE SEATBELT DID NOT RESTRAIN THE CHILD RESTRAINT AND WAS FLIPPED UPON IMPACT. THE CHILD SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE TEMPORAL BONE CAUSING PERMANENT LOSS OF HER RIGHT EAR. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK, RIGHT FOOT, AND HEAD. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE ON-STAR SYSTEM FAILED TO RECOGNIZE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH BECAUSE THE SYSTEM COULD NOT DETECT A CRASH IN A RURAL AREA. THE CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT WAS UNDAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT LOCATE A RECALL IN WHICH HE BELIEVED AFFECTED HIS VEHICLE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V375000-SEAT BELTS) AND WAS THE REASON THE SEAT BELT DID NOT RESTRAIN THE CHILD OCCUPANT. THE CONTACT DID NOT CONFIRM IF HIS VIN WAS INCLUDED. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

Details: FOR THE THIRD TIME IN LESS THAN A YEAR THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON WITH A MESSAGE TO “SERVICE AIRBAG.” TODAY WHILE STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT MY WIFE SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING BUT COULDNT DETERMINE THE ORIGIN. 15 MINUTES LATER AFTER PICKING UP OUR 5 YEAR OLD FROM KINDERGARTEN AND STARTING THE CAR, THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT AND MESSAGE CAME ON. WE WILL AGAIN GO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR (OUR DEDUCTIBLE IS $200 ON THE WARRANTY). I HAVE THREE CHILDREN AGE 2, 5, AND 12 THAT RIDE IN THIS VEHICLE. PREVIOUSLY, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US THAT WHEN THIS LIGHT COMES ON THE AIRBAGS MAY NOT WORK OR MAY DISCHARGE INVOLUNTARILY EVEN WITHOUT A COLLISION. *TR

THE ISSUE WAS NOTICED EVERY-TIME SOMEONE SAT IN THE VEHICLE. A 164-LB MAN WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT AND WAS LIFTED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. SHE HAD TO SIT HER CHILD SEAT ON THE 40 PART TO AVOID INJURY OF HER CHILD. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS A TOTAL OF SEVEN TIMES. Details: I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 GMC ACADIA IN SEPT. OF 2007 AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH IS SENSE BUYING. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS MY SECOND ROW OF SEATING IT HAS A 60/40 SPLIT AND THE 60 PORTION POPS UP ALL THE TIME EVEN WHEN AN ADULT IS SITTING ON IT. I HAVE TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT GMC DEALERSHIPS 7 TIMES AND NO ONE CAN FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I EVEN CONTACTED GMS MAIN OFFICE AND THEY SAID THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE SERVICE DEPT. FINDS A PROBLEM. THEIR ONLY SUGGESTION WAS TO TAKE IT TO A THIRD DEALER AND SEE IF THEY CAN FIND WHATS WRONG. I FEEL THAT IS A VERY UNFAIR TO ME BECAUSE THAT JUST MEANS I HAVE TO DRIVE FURTHER TO FIND A DEALER AND WASTE MORE TIME ON SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. I HAVE 3 KIDS AND THEY CAN NOT EVEN SIT ON THAT SEAT BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN ITS GOING TO CATAPULT THEM UP AND INTO THE BACK OF THE DRIVERS SEAT. WE CANT EVEN PUT OUR YOUNGEST CARSEAT IN THE SEAT. THIS HAS JUST BEEN VERY UPSETTING AND I AM TIRED OF DEALING WITH GM AND THE SALESPERSON I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM IS THE ONE WHO SUGGESTED I CONTACT YOU. AGAIN WE BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW. THE OTHER THINGS THAT ARE WRONG IS I STILL HAVE WATER LEAKING IN THE TOP OF THE DRIVERS WINDOW WHEN ITS SITTING DURING A HARD RAIN,, MY FAN MOTOR FOR THE A/C AND HEAT GOES UP AND DOWN ALL BY ITS SELF AND PAINT IS PEELING OFF THE HOOD. THESE ARE THINGS I GUESS I CAN DEAL WITH BUT THE SEAT HAS GOT TO GET CORRECTED. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP, THANK YOU AND LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM SOMEONE. *TR

Details: SEAT BELT FLAW PUT CHILD IN DANGER. THE MIDDLE THIRD ROW SEAT BELT WOULD NOT UNLATCH; MY SIX YEAR OLD BECAME TANGLED IN IT AND HAD TO BE CUT OUT, IT WAS CUTTING OFF HIS AIR SUPPLY – AFTER THE INCIDENT, I LOOKED IN THE MANUAL WHICH SAID THERE WAS A HIDDEN KEY BUT I COULD NOT FIND SUCH A KEY. IF I HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN A CRASH OR HAD TO THROW ON THE BRAKES SUDDENLY, HE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. AFTER OUR FAILED ATTEMPTS TO FREE HIM WHILE PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I DROVE TO THE NEAREST HOUSE AND BORROWED SCISSORS TO CUT HIM FREE. I CALLED GMC TO REPORT THIS AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NO COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. THE MIDDLE BELT EXTENDS FROM THE ROOF DOWN TO THE SEAT. HE OBVIOUSLY PULLED IT OUT ENOUGH TO WRAP IT AROUND HIMSELF ONE TIME AND THEN THROUGH WIGGLING CAUSED IT TO TIGHTEN AND THEN AS HE STRUGGLED TO GET OUT, IT KEPT TIGHTENING. WHEN I FINALLY PULLED OVER TO HELP HIM, THE BELT WAS SO TIGHT I COULD NOT EVEN GET A FINGER BETWEEN HIM AND THE BELT. HE WAS GASPING FOR AIR AND CRYING. THIS BELT NEEDS A REGULAR BELT LATCH. *TR

Details: OWN A 2008 GMC ACADIA THAT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN AUGUST FOR THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE LIGHT FIRST CAME ON IN OCT. OF 2008, AFTER DRIVING ONLY 4000 MILES. THE PROBLEM WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED BY GMC SERVICE AS THE LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY. THE FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT IT WAS THE RESULT OF FAULTY WIRING, BUT LIGHT STILL CAME ON AFTER WIRING WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE SECOND TRIP TO GMC, , THE FRONT SEAT AIR BAG WAS REPLACED ON DRIVER SIDE IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I HAD TO WAIT THREE WEEKS FOR THE PART TO COME IN THOUGH, AS THEY WERE BACK ORDERED. AS SOON AS I DROVE OFF THE LOT WITH THE DRIVERS SEAT AIR BAG REPLACED, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS WAS THE FOURTH TIME NOW, AND THE VERY SAME DAY! THIS TIME I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG. IT TOO WAS REPLACED IN HOPES OF SOLVING THE PROBLEM. ONE MONTH LATER THE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. I ONCE AGAIN NOTIFIED GMC OF THE ISSUE AS I FEEL THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE, AND DONT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY FAMILY IN THE CAR. I HAVE STATED THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND GMC, SOMETHING HAS TO BE WRONG WHEN THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON EVERY MONTH. I HAVE READ MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND ALSO ONE OF THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING DURING A CRASH. THIS IS MY BIGGEST FEAR, AND NOW WILL BE PURSUING OTHER AVENUES TO RETURN THIS VEHICLE TO GMC. *TR

SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP, BUT THE INDICATOR WAS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. AS A RESULT, NO ERROR CODE COULD BE FOUND AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE. WHEN SHE RETURNED TO THE REPAIR SHOP, THE INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE MECHANIC ADJUSTED A COMPONENT AFTER INSPECTING THE INFLATOR MODULE AND SEATS, WHICH BOTH APPEARED TO BE OKAY. HOWEVER, WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE REPAIR SHOP WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY ORDERED THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR, BUT DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. THE REPAIR SHOP COULD NOT GUARANTEE MAXIMUM PROTECTION WITH THE SIDE AIR BAGS IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.
