Dodge Ram Vibration

Dodge Ram owners have complained of vehicle vibration.  Here, is an excerpt from a  lemon law decision,

 

Petitioner testified that the vibration is constant at highway speeds regardless of the highway. He testified that driving the truck with this vibration is intimidating and distracting. The truck was leased for its capacity to tow petitioner’s boat and trailer. Petitioner testified that he does not use the truck for its intended purpose because the vibrations make him nervous and anxious about what could happen. Petitioner also testified that his fiancé is very uncomfortable and does not like to drive with him in the truck.

Jeep Compass Sun Roof Water Leak

Many Chryslers have experienced water leak problems and a class action involving the Jeep Compass has been filed.  .  Two months after Plaintiff purchased a Chrysler Jeep Compass (“Compass vehicle” or the “vehicle”), water began leaking from the factory-installed sunroof when there was “a ‘hard’ rain.”  Plaintiff could not determine the source of the water leak and took the Compass vehicle to the Dover Chrysler dealership “where it was ‘water tested.'” (Id.) The test was covered by the Basic Limited Warranty that was sold with the vehicle, which resulted in Plaintiff paying nothing out-of-pocket for the test. (Id. ¶ 27.) The water leak was the result of the sunroof glass being out of adjustment in its frame. (Def.’s Resp. to Pl.’s CSUMF ¶ 24, ECF No. 61.) The misaligned sunroof glass was corrected by an adjustment, after which Plaintiff determined that the sunroof had been fixed. (Id.) On October 4, 2013, Plaintiff installed a hands-free telephone adapter into the Compass vehicle. (Def.’s SUMF ¶ 30.) To install the hands-free telephone adapter, “a wire had to be run through the ‘A pillar on the driver’s side’ of the vehicle.”

Jeep Cherokee Fueling Problems

pumping-gas-1631638_960_7202014-2015 Jeep Cherokees are known for their faulty transmissions, but now Cherokee owners are reporting problems even fueling their cars.  They find gas pumps shutting off after just a half a gallon pumped – and frustration as they can’t fill their tanks.  Even after multiple replacements of tanks and hoses the problem is not fixed.  This “hard to fill” problem is well-represented anecdotally on Jeep Cherokee forums, and NHTSA is tracking fueling complaints.

CHRYSLER ACCUSED OF MANIPULATING AIR QUALITY TEST RESULTS

The Environment  Protection Agency accused FCA Chrysler of using software that altered  diesel emissions in over  100,000 vehicles.

EPA  alleged  Fiat Chrysler had violated the Clean Air Act by installing and failing to disclose “engine management software” on diesel models sold in the United States, including the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Ram 1500 trucks with 3.0 liter diesel engines.

9 Speed Transmission Recall

There have been multiple recalls, service bulletins, and  changes in the 9 speed transmission to address serious problems.

Jeep and Land Rover showed the first nine-speed  automatic transmissions of the world  at the 2013 Nobel Geneva Motor Show  with the  Jeep Cherokee 2014 the first nine-speed automatic transmission commercially available.  

1. Recall

Automotive supplier ZF is recalling a control sensor found on nine-speed automatic transmissions used in over 500,000 vehicles. Fiat Chrysler, Honda and Land Rover models are affected.   The transmission can shift into neutral at any speed or gear because of an insufficient crimp on a wiring harness attached to the sensor cluster. Models affected include the 2014-16 Jeep Cherokee, 2015-16 Jeep Renegade, 2015-17 Chrysler 200, 2015-16 RAM ProMaster City, 2016 Fiat 500X, 2014-17 Range Rover Evoque, 2015-17 Land Rover Discovery, 2015-17 Acura TLX (V6) and certain trims of the 2015-16 Honda Pilot.

2. Software Changes and Updates

A Feb. 2015 story explains.

Now the automaker is offering a solution by way of software updates. The reprogramming of vehicle computers is said to cure issues of “hard shifts, lunging, unexpected disengagement of the transmission, and repeated illumination of malfunction lights.” Those complaints come directly from customers filing reports on the safecar.gov website.

FCA U.S. will begin to notify owners of 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokees along with owners of some 2015 Chrysler 200s powered by the 2.4-liter four-cylinder that the reprogrammed software is available at dealerships. In an interview with Automotive News, an FCA U.S. spokeswoman said the updated transmission software is “intended to keep the vehicle performing as intended, and to prevent durability issues from occurring in the future.”

Jeep Wrangler & Other Models Water Leak

In a recent case, Chrysler acknowledge a significant problem with water leak on Jeep Wrangler and other models.

he Court decision in Baker v. FCA states,

“Mr. Santora, a declared expert in this hearing for the automotive repair industry, and as a representative of Chrysler in this matter, based on his years of experience and credentials, stated that the first time he saw this car was the day of the hearing. He further testified that industry recognizes that water leaks are prevalent in this vehicle. Mr. Santora affirmed, when asked, that there are many causes of water intrusion in this type of vehicle. Mr. Santora agreed, when asked, that improper placement of the soft-top would cause a water intrusion as well as missing parts, i.e., a missing piece of foam from the seal kit. Mr. Santora further identified, when shown, that R-6 is a limited warranty for all Chrysler Jeeps.

Mr. Santora stated that Jeeps have been known to leak and that the Wrangler model, due to the fact they have removable tops, is prone to this type of concern. Mr. Santora stated that that the Manufacturer is aware of these concerns and that is why they publish the Jeep Wrangler Diagnosis and Repair Manual for Water Leaks for dealership technicians.”

Chrysler 200 Transmission Problems

I drove a Chrysler 200s with 9 speed transmission and its responsiveness was a nightmare. First at highway speed it was very (very) hard to accelerate when you wanted to change line and make pass. It took ridiculous long time to downshift and found the necessary power. On the other hand, it seemed also confused to shift in stop and go traffic. Dodge Dart Transmission Class Action

Owners of the Dodge Dart have experienced numerous problems including transmission malfunction.   A class action lawsuit filed in federal court alleges problems with the manual transmission clutch in 2013-14 Dodge Dart vehicles, causing the transmission to fail to engage, as well as other acceleration issues.  The California lawsuit alleges a defective hydraulic clutch system that does not function as expected and is instead plagued by numerous problems and safety concerns.

Fiat-Chrysler is recalling an estimated 23,688 2013-’15 Dodge Darts Sedans in the U.S. because the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. … The company said the recall is limited to certain Darts with dual dry-clutch transmissions

Dodge Dart owners may be entitled to compensation for transmission and other problems.

Fiat 500 brake problems, check engine

Fiat owners have reported numerous problems with their vehicles.  The 2015 Consumer Consumer Reports Issue called it the least reliable compact vehicle and Car Complaint Index put it in the same category.  Owners may be entitled to compensation for repair cost and loss of use and here are some typical complaints.

SUMMARY:

Hey, I just bought a new one also, it now has 646 miles on it and yesterday morning the CHECK ENGINE light started flashing. I got to work and then called the dealer service desk, told them what was going on. They told me to bring it in the next day. Dropped the car off and told them then the light flashed again and then stayed on, a message came across the center of the speed “HAVE ENGINE CHECKED” I have my own scanner, the code P0301-cylinder 1 mis-fire. They told me there was a TSB and they would have to download software and so far it has worked. I’m a little gun shy now, i mean a new car and in the @#&* shop already. hope you get yours back soon. Maybe all they have to do is download and re-flash it, take care..

 

My wife’s 2 week old POP is doing the same thing. 1 hour after driving it off the dealer lot the ESC, ABS, Power Steering, Check Engine, Engine Heater Recommended, and Brake lights lit up the instrument panel. The speedometer also stopped working. A few days later the dealer picked it up and replaced the ABS module (not sure if it’s the electronics module or the actual ABS distribution block that was replaced). A few days later, the car returns to my wife without the warning lights. The following day, as she pulls out of the driveway, the lights return in all their glory.

I bought the car April 5th as gift for my wife, it is now April 15th, and she has been able to drive her car for two days. Dealer is offering a replacement, but they have to crunch the numbers Monday. So we shall see what happens.

BTW, Hello everyone. I’m new to the forum but have been researching here and all over the internet since buying the car trying to figure out the problem. I bought this car to replace my wife’s finicky ’95 mustang so she could have a reliable car while I was away with the Army for a few months. The dealer has been a great help so far, but the whole entire has been a fiasco and headache due to the fact that this should not occur with a new car. I had less problems with 20 year old used cars.

It’s too bad because the hour of problem free driving was a blast. As is, my wife is waiting on a replacement, and I have lost confidence in the brand and regret my purchase.
