Suddenly, the transmission does not seem to know which gear it is supposed to be in; between 20 and 50 mph. Plus, when it shifts, sometimes it does with a huge jolt. The most common and most concerning safety wise is; starting off in traffic; when the traffic starts, slows, then speeds up again, I press the accelerator, ease off the accelerator and back on, it does not respond (feels like it has jumped to 4th or 5th gear), the engine can’t pull it. I have no choice but to press on the gas more and maybe a little more; then, boom, it shifts, the rpm’s shoot up, the truck jumps forward. First, it’s concerning safety wise. If the vehicles in front happens to slow and my truck jumps at the wrong time, there’s potentially an accident. Second, it can’t be good on the drive train. Third, there is no way to have a smooth take off when it does it. There are other times and situations when it unpredictably shifts up or down and is not smooth nor consistent with the gear needed, again creating unsafe and rough driving. The dealer tells me that it is operating within limits and ALL these trucks are having transmission problems. But, there is nothing they can do about it. Their recommendation is drive it and continue to bring it back if it continues and they will do the same checks on it. This is not a satisfactory answer and not the quality that I expect out of GM.

CRUZE HAS COOLANT ODOR OUTSIDE CAR AND HAS LOSS OF COOLANT AT EVERY OIL CHANGE. DEALER DOES NOT WRITE THIS DOWN ON SERVICE RECORDS. THIS IS SIMILAR PROBLEM AS 2012 CRUZE ECO I HAD TO TRADE IN BECAUSE GM/DEALER COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM OF ANTIFREEZE LOSS. UNDER SOME CONDITIONS COOLANT TEMPERATURE GETS UP TO 236 DEG F BEFORE RADIATOR FAN COMES ON AND THIS GETS WORSE IN WINTER. THIS HIGH TEMPERATURE SEEMS TO ALIGN WITH PROBLEM BUT THE ANALOG GAUGE STOPS AT ABOUT 3/8 AND WILL NOT GO FURTHER EVEN WHEN DIGITAL TEMPERATURE REGISTERS 190DEG F OR 240 DEG F. ( THEY SAID GAUGE IS DESIGNED THIS WAY) GM AND DEALER SAY SYSTEM IS WORKING AS DESIGNED BUT HAVEN’T EXPLAINED FAN OPERATION OR WHY TEMPERATURE GETS TO 236 DEG F WHEN NORMAL TEMPERATURE IS 221 DEG F. FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE RESULTING IN CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FIRE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN APRIL 2014. AFTER COMPLAINING ABOUT ENGINE POWER LOSS THREE MONTHS PRIOR, I STARTED SMELLING A FUEL ODOR THE WEEK BEFORE THANKSGIVING, I IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED THE CHEVROLET DEALER ABOUT THE ODOR, THE DEALER DID INFORM ME THAT A TSB WAS ON GM DEALER WORLD IN REGARDS TO THE FUEL RAILS POSSIBLY COMING LOOSE CAUSING A FUEL ODOR / HESITATION. AFTER CAREFUL EXAMINATION OF THE VEHICLE THERE WAS NO VISIBLE FUEL LIQUID PRESENT ON THE ENGINE OR GROUND BELOW THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SAT PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR MAJORITY OF THE DAY, UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT TO THE DEALER THREE MINUTES AFTER THE VEHICLE BURST INTO FLAMES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, USING A GARDEN HOSE WHILE CALLING 911 THE VEHICLE BECAME FULLY INVOLVED IN THE ENGINE BAY SPREADING INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. ONCE WATER CONTACTED THE ENGINE BAY THE FIRE FURTHER SPREAD INDICATING THE FIRE WAS CHEMICALLY BASED. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE VEHICLE USING A FOAM WATER MIXTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE, I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SUPPORT ONLY TO BE STONEWALLED BY THE AGENT. I HAD OVER 10000 DOLLARS IN PAYMENTS INVESTED IN THIS VEHICLE. GM SHOULD HAVE STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE NOT THE INSURANCE. NOT A SURPRISE AFTER THE IGNITION SWITCH DISCRETIONS AND DEATHS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET CRUZE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE SERVICED UNDER A SAFETY RECALL RELATED TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WATER PUMP HOUSING WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHEN THE HEATER WAS ACTIVATED, AN ODOR OF ANTIFREEZE AND FUEL EMITTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.

Chevrolet Silverado Vibration

A number of consumers have complained about vibration on the Chevrolet Silverado.  One source  states,

“It is not wheel balancing. We have had several of 2014 trucks with vibrations, both Chevy and GMC. One of our technicians found the teeth on the ring gear in the differential were different lengths. Supposedly fixed a few. Mine vibrates like crazy. I can feel it the instant I hit the gas and different speeds as high as 85 mph. I haven’t had mine done yet as I don’t want to throw parts at it. There are a lot of trucks with this issue. Not sure if the ring gear is really the issue. If it is, they better do something about it. Either a service campaign, or recall. My double cab was less than 500 units in production at Fort Wayne and the assembly quality has been horse $hit. It should never have left the factory with the issues my truck has. Another wrote, “My dealer has tried more than 3 times to correct the vibration issue on my vehicle.  It’s not from a lack of trying to fix it but they are simply puzzled.  The GM rep has checked my truck out and I’ve been thru 6 tires and it still shakes… I found an attorney in Florida who specializes in Lemon Law vehicles and i’m going see what my options are.  Has anyone successfully had their vehicle replaced or refunded from GM?   My dealership has been very good to me but I’m getting tired of driving an LT demo truck when I’m paying for a LTZ.”

2015 Chevrolet Silverado trucks have a vibration problem.  The trucks are 6-cylinders, and some suggest a feature called “active fuel management” caused the engine to run erratically on 4 cylinders to achieve  fuel efficiency.    GM has issued service bulletins on the subject, including “PI1354C: Information on Vibration Analysis and Diagnostic” and PIP5228A.  We have set forth reports filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about the problem.

THIS DIDNOT FIX THE PROBLEM OF THE SEVERE VIBRATION GOING DOWN THE ROAD. I THEN TOOK THE TRUCK TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR THE VIBRATION, THEY TEST DROVE IT AND CONFIRMED THE VIBRATION, DID A ROAD FORCE BALANCE ON ALL 4 WHEELS, THEN REPLACED ALL TIRE’S, THIS ALSO HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM,THE TRUCK IS STILL VIBRATING, THE ENTIRE SEAT JUST SHAKES, I AM PRESENTLY WAITING ON ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME HIMSELF AFTER REPLACING ALL 4 TIRE’S THAT IT FELT LIKE A BALANCE ISSUE INSIDE THE MOTOR WHICH THERE IS NO FIX, NOW THAT IS CRAZY…I FELL THAT THIS TRUCK SHOULD BE REPLACED OR MY MONEY BACK ENTIRELY.THE TRUCK ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 2000 MILES CAUSE IT MAKES ME SICK TO DRIVE IT….

Chevrolet Volt Steering Problem Claims & Class Action

A class action has been filed alleging defects in the steering system of the Chevrolet Volt.  That may cause malfunctions and driving problems  which can make  the steering wheel to freeze intermittently while driving.. The lawsuit further claims that the alleged defect poses a hazardous safety risk to drivers and that even when GM agrees to fix the steering system, it only replaces the allegedly defective steering rack with the same or similarly defective components.   “When class members present to GM’s authorized dealerships complaining of the steering defect, the dealerships recommend repairs such as replacing the steering rack or steering gear assembly,” the plaintiffs said. “However, these repairs only temporarily mask the problem.”

2011 LCF 550 with engine problems 011 Chevrolet Malibu with electrical and engine problems

FORD LCF 550 SERIES 2007 technical service bulletin was issued Feb 01, 2007.FORD LCF 550 SERIES 2007 had a failed ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING ENGINE. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM. ENGINE CRANKCASE VENTILLATION SYSTEM UPGRADE. FORD. urning the key to the on position the gauges would sometimes act if they lost power. When attempting to start the engine when the gauges were in this unpowered state, the starter would turn but the there would be no spark coming from the coil packs. I tested the lead and ground to the coil packs and the crankshaft position sensor. Since other components still have power (lights, radio, windows, etc.) the problem seems to be after the battery but before the coil pack which leads to the conclusion of it being something with the ignition switch or wires in between. No confirmed solution as of yet. More important to consumers are the changes to the interior and exterior. The Malibu is beautiful and has a modern, well-proportioned look. Although it’s built on the same chassis as the Impala, designers and engineers were able to lower the Malibu to give it a much sportier stance. The Malibu uses more high-strength steel and lighter undercarriage parts to help it shed pounds but enhance performance. The new roof design, which stretches farther back, helps provide ample headroom for adult passengers in the back and gives the Malibu a more distinct shape.

Summary: I know this is going to look suspicious being only my third post but I wasn’t sure what forum to join at first. I have noticed a shake or vibration in my new 4×4 crew 5.5 box 5.3 truck it seems to come and go and has been a pain to pin point what makes it happen. I can feel it in the steering wheel, seat and sometimes the gas petal but mostly in the steering wheel. It seems to be most noticeable going up or down hill with very light acceleration but can do it on level ground at cruise speed too. And the fun part is it doesn’t always do it to make it more of a challenge to diagnose it.

Brought it to the dealer last week and I thought the mechanic was going to think I was crazy but he did feel it too which was a relief also the service writer test drove it after they balanced and rotated the tires and he said its slight, but he felt it too. We scheduled it to come in tomorrow and are opening a warranty claim. I have very little faith that its going to get fixed because of the nature of the vibration and it being so new that there probably isn’t any info out there on what it could be. I really don’t know what they can do tomorrow other then make phone calls. If I had to venture a guess I’m going to say its in the transmission or possibly the engine.

We also have a 2012 equinox and on the same roads there’s no vibration at all.

Also I have the z71 and man does that thing ride STIFF! Every repair strip in the tar is felt hard! Anyone know if it just takes some miles to get the shocks broke in (2600 on it now)? My 04 was a z71 too and rode much, much softer then this.

Chevrolet Impala and Cadillac XTS Brake Problems

In 2014 General Motors recalled 221,558 Cadillac XTS and Chevrolet Impala vehicles.  The recall is over a defect in the parking brake – the parking brake indicator may not illuminate causing owners to drive with their parking brake engaged.  Brakes may smoke, heat up, spark, or at worse start a fire.

In addition, Cadillac and Impala owners have experienced other problems with brakes not disengaging fully.  Owners may be entitled to compensation for vehicle problems.  Our office is evaluating a class action for brake defects.

The recall involves Cadillacs from the 2013-2015 model years and Impalas from the 2014 and 2015 model years. The majority of the cars, 205,309 vehicles, are in the US with the rest in Canada and elsewhere.

I. NHTSA COMPLAINTS

Here are some reported complaints to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) describing the results of the brake problems on their GM vehicles.

(A)  GRINDING NOISE FROM FRONT AND ABS ENGAGES THE BRAKES AND LOW TRACTION LIGHT FLASHES ON WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND TURNING LEFT AT THE SAME TIME, DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU ACCELERATE SLOW OR FAST AND THIS IS HAPPENING ON DRY PAVEMENT. IF I TURN OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL IT WILL NOT DO IT, SO I ASSUME THE PROBLEM MUST EXIST IN A SPEED SENSOR OR SOMETHING WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL SENSORS OR WIRING. OF COURSE MECHANICS CANNOT DUPLICATE THIS. WAITING FOR GM TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND FIX.

(B)  FIRST MY SERVICE ABS TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AND WHILE MAKING LEFT TURNS A LOUD METAL GRINDING NOISE HAPPENED AND MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FLASHED.  IT FEELS LIKE THE ABS IS BRAKING ON ITS OWN FOR NO REASON WHILE I DRIVE MY 2013 IMPALA LTZ. MY MECHANICS CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS NEITHER CAN ANY IMPALA OWNER OR MECHANIC. BUT I’M 99% SURE WHEN I DRIVE IT TONIGHT TO VISIT FRIENDS I WILL HEAR A METAL ON METAL GRINDING NOISE I JUST HOPE NOT WHILE IM ON THE FREEWAY WHERE I CAN GET KILLED. IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING COMING FROM A STOP OR AS SIMPLE AS ME BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY.

(C)  2013 CHEVY IMPALA WITH APPROXIMATELY 38860 MILES. 3.31.2015 DEVELOPED A GRINDING NOISE IN THE FRONT END WHEN TURNING SHARP LEFT, CAUSES THE CAR TO HESITATE, , MY CAR IS NOT SAFE.WHO HAS TO DIE TO HAVE THIS CHECKED OUT AND RECALLED? AGAIN, 2013 IMPALA – GRINDING NOISE WHEN MAKING SHARP LEFT AND HESITATES CAUSING DANGEROUS SITUATION. PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO [XXX] IF YOU ARE ABLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. II. NHTSA LETTER

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) letter, seen by Reuters, the vehicles had issues with brakes that did not fully retract after use.  “If the vehicle is operated for an extended period of time in this condition, there is a potential for the rear brakes to generate significant heat, smoke and sparks,” the letter said. “Brake pads that remain partially engaged with the rotors may cause excessive brake heat that may result in a fire.”
