the vehicle would suddenly slow and the engine would stall out. She would have to restart the vehicle to be able to continue driving.   After that date, plaintiff experienced the same problem on many occasions. When that happened, an error message would appear on the dash screen. On those occasions, plaintiff sent a text message to her service representative at Infiniti San Francisco. The service representative replied with a text message saying to just keep driving the vehicle saying it was nothing to worry about.

Attempted Repair

The tech who inspected the car wrote stated the following: “Found past codes for pedal position sensor malfunction and fuel rail system pressure abnormal, performed DTC confirmation, was able to clear codes, possible accel pedal related, checked data monitor, found accel pedal sensor 0% fully released and 100% fully depressed ….contacted tech line for further assistance. Per tech line tested [various components]. As per tech line request continue to operate vehicle in similar conditions and attempt to duplicate concern. Able to duplicate concern after extended road test. Found terminal 1 and 5 of connector E95 out of spec. Replaced… confirmed operation.

Some have suggested the vehicle should be recalled for the problem.

NISSAN ROGUE AIR-CONDITIONING PROBLEMS

Owners of the Nissan Rogue have complained of frequent and unrepaired air-conditioning problems.  Causes seem to vary,   “While there are a variety of reasons your Nissan Rogue air conditioning won’t work, the most common 3 are a refrigerant leak, an electrical climate control issue, or a problem with the air conditioning compressor.”

Broken Air Conditioning

Here are some typical reported complaints,

“I have the same problem. The dealership can’t duplicate the problem while it is at the shop. I’m under warranty but they won’t replace anything unless they see the blowers not working. I can’t take the car on long trips or drive it in conditions when the windows might fog up because it is dangerous when it stops working! Are there any technical bulletins out on this?”

“I have a 2016 Nissan Rogue with less then 10,000 miles and the air conditioning system went out. I had problems with Nissan before and thought I’d give that other chance cuz this car has good gas mileage. But I think I’m done with Nissan after this.  I have a 2015 Nissan rouge the a/c stops working after an hour. they told me this was normal.”

“I have a 2016 rogue that has 19,000 miles on it. coming home from camp I’ve notice that my ac stopped working and on that day it just happen to be 103F degrees.   They cant say we cant duplicate the problem. 3 days later they called and said the a/c compressor is the problem and they replaced it. picked up my cars drove it 3 miles down the road guess what yup it problem is still there. I was smart enough to video the problem as I was driving the car back to the dealer. walked in told the service that I have just drove my car off the lot and the problem is still there showed him the video. another 2 days in the shop now they come up with another problem they said it a intake temp sensor.”

Nissan Air Bag Problem

car-1751750_960_720

Consumers have experienced problems with Nissan airbag systems.  Sometimes the airbag will not work misclassifying adult passengers.  This is different from the Takata airbag problem.  Here are excerpts from an NHTSA report.

Nissan North America, Inc. 20150831 20170502 15V681000 Occupant Classification System Failure In April 2014, Nissan North America launched Safety Recall 14V-138 to address problems with the Occupant Classification System (OCS) algorithm in the following vehicles: model year (MY) 2013-2014 Nissan Altima, Pathfinder, Sentra and LEAF; MY 2013 Infiniti JX35; MY 2014 Infiniti QX60 and Q50; and MY 2013 Nissan NV 200/Taxi vehicles.

According to Nissan, the OCS may misclassify adult front passenger occupants and turn off the passenger’s frontal air bag for an adult occupant of sufficient weight. In March 2015, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Recall Query (RQ15-001) after the agency received approximately 124 complaints alleging problems with the OCS after the recall repairs and/or other OCS related repairs were made by Nissan/Infiniti dealers. The majority of the complaints alleged the passenger air bag status light stays on (i.e., indicating passenger air bag is turned off) for adult front passengers of sufficient weight.

Many of the complaints stated the dealers have made multiple repairs but the problem still persists. In its June 2015 response to ODI’s information request under the Recall Query, Nissan provided approximately 1,121 complaints and field reports on the recalled vehicles. These reports alleged OCS issues similar to the NHTSA reports described above. At this time, NHTSA has received a total of approximately 208 complaints (note: total of 1,271 reports shown in the table above eliminates 58 duplicative reports received by ODI and manufacturer). An Engineering Analysis has been opened to conduct a comparative assessment and further evaluate the effectiveness of the recall remedy which will include a thorough review of the countermeasures taken by Nissan and its suppliers. The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners

Nissan Infiniti Transmission Problems

car-1751750_960_720

Owners of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles have experienced transmission problems and may be entitled to compensation for loss of use, repair costs and other problems.  Enclosed is material obtained from the NHTSA dealing with an investigation into Nissan transmission problems.

INFINITI JX  2013   POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:COOLING UNIT AND LINES    Nissan North America, Inc.    Transmission cooler hose separation

Nissan North America (Nissan) submitted a Defect Information Report to NHTSA describing a defect of inadequate hose clamping force that may result in the internal transmission oil cooler (ITOC) hose detaching from the cooler.  Transmission fluid leakage from a detached ITOC hose results in a progressive series of symptoms beginning with malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illumination, followed by noise and vibration and culminating in loss of power due to transmission failure. Many of the incident vehicle drivers interviewed by ODI indicated that the loss of power occurred soon after the first symptoms were observed.

Owners of all potentially affected vehicles will be notified within 60 days to take their vehicles to a Nissan dealer.  The dealer will install an oil hose repair kit at no charge to owners.  ODI’s analysis of failure data for the 3,065 Pathfinder vehicles that are included in Nissan’s recall identified 12 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), 134 Nissan complaints and field reports and 259 warranty claims. This equates to a complaint/field report rate of 47.6 incidents per thousand vehicles (IPTV) and a warranty claim rate of 8.5 percent. The failure rates for the 120,474 subject vehicles that are not included in the recall are much lower, with complaint rates of 0.4 and 0.8 IPTV and warranty claim rates of 0.1 and 0.2 percent for the remaining MY 2013 Pathfinder and JX vehicles, respectively.

Nissan Rogue Air-conditioning Defect

Owners of the Nissan Rogue have complained of air condition problems, unresolved despite multiple repairs.  Here are some excerpts,

“The air conditioning in my 2016 Nissan Rogue wasn’t working and then began working.  I was taking my daughter to the airport in a heavy rain. The car started and ran, but the air conditioning, window defoggers, and blind spot lights didn’t work. It made the trip scary as the front window kept fogging up. As we opened the windows to help the situation, we were rained on. The car is less than 3 months old and the windows still fogged up.” http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t60474_ds717654

Here are some typical repairs,

  • A/C assembly replaced,
  • Air-conditioning controller ordered,
  • A service bulleting states, the problem: the air conditioning may malfunction or perform poorly thanks to a defective high-pressure air-conditioning refrigerant hose and steel line assembly.  Dealers will replace the high-pressure air-conditioning hose.

Problems with CVT Transmission

Owners of the Nissan Versa have experienced multiple transmission problems.  Problems with the  CVT  transmission have been reported by many drivers, and a class action has been filed.  Owners may be entitled to compensation or new vehicles because of the multiple problems.  Here is one report:

“A Nissan Versa CVT (continuously variable transmission) lawsuit alleges the cars fail to accelerate and finally experience complete transmission failure that causes owners and lessees to pay thousands of dollars for CVT replacements and repairs.

The proposed class-action lawsuit includes all current and former owners and lessees of 2012 and 2013 Nissan Versas that are equipped with CVTs that allegedly fail within and shortly after the warranties expire.

A CVT is a modified automatic transmission that uses a single belt and a dual-pulley mechanism with a ‘drive pulley’ and ‘driven pulley’ that work opposite one another, constantly creating different gear ratios that allegedly allow smooth acceleration and deceleration.”

Remedies

There are various remedies available to consumers besides waiting for class action settlements to be finalized.  Call (973) 598-1980 for a free consultation about compensation and your rights.

A CVT is a modified automatic transmission that uses a single belt and a dual-pulley mechanism with a “drive pulley” and “driven pulley” that work opposite one another, constantly creating different gear ratios that allegedly allow smooth acceleration and deceleration.

Plaintiff Michael Knotts says he bought a new Nissan Versa in October 2012 and eventually the car failed to accelerate in traffic after braking at an intersection.

On one particular occasion after having braked at a red light, the plaintiff allegedly attempted to accelerate across the intersection when the light turned green. His Versa, however, would not accelerate beyond a crawl, causing him to block traffic behind him and leaving him barely able to move the car onto the shoulder of the road.”

Nissan Altima’s CVT Transmission Problems: Consumer Reports

https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/index.htmIn an article from October 2015, Consumer Reports reports on the emergence of problems with Nissan’s new version of their CVT transmission.  Fast forward two years later and this prediction came to pass.  Nissan’s consumer confidence and vehicle reliability has taken a hit because of issues with the 2013 and 2014 version of the CVT transmission.  Customers complain of shuddering, jerking, sluggishness, and other problems in their Nissans with this transmission, particularly in 2013 and 2014 Altimas.

car-1751750_960_720“’We’ve seen a number of brands struggle with new transmission technology, ‘ said Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports’ director of automotive testing. ‘Whether it’s a complex system such as a dual-clutch gearbox, a continuously variable transmission, or one with eight or nine speeds. Many vehicles require repair and replacements because of rough shifting among the gears and slipping CVT belts.'”
