CHRYSLER PACIFICA STALLING PROBLEM AND CLASS ACTION

cropped-woman-angry.jpg

Owners of the Chrysler Pacific have complained about multiple engine problems and a class action has been filed.

1. Complaints

Here are typical complaints,

“Not even an hour after leaving the dealership the vehicle stalled, losing all power, and had to be restarted to regain power and driving ability at a stop light. We were not hit, but it is very dangerous to have a vehicle that stalls randomly.”

— NHTSA ID 11056049

“My pacifica’s engine turned off WHILE I WAS MOVING. I had no warning, just that it stopped accelerating and the screen said that car must be in park to put it in drive. Thankfully I had just turned onto a residential street, however, due to the steering being electronic, I had lost the power steering. I had to coast to a stop, then put it in park and press the on button with foot on brake like normal starting…I am not sure what to do at this point, I’m really nervous about driving it. The tech couldn’t tell me anything. I didn’t have any warning, and nothing weird happened with the vehicle before the shut off of the engine.”

— LAPRINCIPESSA, PACIFICAFORUMS.COM

“Purchased a brand new Chrysler Pacifica vehicle 3 wks ago on may 18 2017…May 21 was the first incident on the interstate in chicago we stalled in the middle of traffic for approximately 10 minutes. May 27 we pulled up to a stoplight and the engine stalled out on us that lasted approximately 3 minutes, the same day at a tollbooth we stalled out which lasted about 25 minutes before the car would start again…May 30 we left the grocery store the screen switch to the app page and would not switch back, the brakes locked and we lost engine power. That lasted 20 mins before car would start. June 7 car would not start after coming out of the grocery store waited 20 minutes then tried again car started 30 seconds after the ignition button has been pressed by itself. June 11 car stalled out pulling into the driveway. Took less then a minute to restart this time.

GENERAL MOTORS TRUCK AND SUV AIR-CONDITIONING PROBLEMS

AC button 2

Five class actions have been filed against GM stating that certain GM trucks and SUVs were sold with a defective air conditioning system.   Even GM acknowledges that the claims ‘share factual questions arising from the allegations of a common defect.’

1. Vehicles Covered

Complaints have been reported about,

Cadillac Escalade (model years 2015-2017),
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (model years 2014-2016),
Chevrolet Suburban (model years 2015-2017),
Chevrolet Tahoe (model years 2015-2017),
GMC Sierra 1500 (model years 2014-2016)
GMC Yukon (model years 2015-2017)

2. Defect and Cause of the Air-Conditioning Problem

Several of the components in the air conditioning system are “too weak to
hold the pressure of the coolant” which builds up when the system is on.  One problem is that the discharge lines and condensers are too weak to handle the pressure the coolant is under.   Parts are causing coolant to leak out and air to seep in, which causes water vapor to freeze into ice, blocking the circulation of coolant.  The fluid is forced out of the system, making the system ineffective, and creating other potential problems.

3. Claims

Claims may be filed for breach of implied warranty, lemon law, express warranty, and violation of the federal Magnuson-Moss Act.  Further, complaints  allege that GM
knew about the alleged air conditioning defect, withheld that information from the public, and continued to advertise and sell the vehicles without informing purchasers of any issue.   Service bulletins related to the air conditioning defect were issued in
October 2014 and May 2015, online forums that contained customer complaints, and there have been ae number of claims for AC System repairs and part replacements
made during the car’s warranty periods.

CHRYSLER PACIFICA ENGINE STALL AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEM

car-1751750_960_720
Owners of 2017 Chrysler Pacificas have complained of stalling, poor engine performance, hesitation, and transmission concerns.  Owners may be entitled to refunds, compensation or replacement vehicles.

Carcomplaints.com reports,

“A Chrysler Pacifica engine stall lawsuit alleges the minivans can die on the highways at any speed, and Fiat Chrysler (FCA US) has no idea how to fix the problems.  The lawsuit includes all U.S. residents who purchased or leased 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica minivans equipped with 3.6-liter V6 engines and 9-speed 948TE automatic transmissions.

The Pacifica engine stall proposed class-action lawsuit was filed after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was petitioned by the Center for Auto Safety to investigate complaints about 2017 Chrysler Pacifica engines that stall while driving.   The petition says minivan owners report that dealers try different repairs to solve the stalling problems, including replacing the transmission and voltage control modules or updating the software. In addition, technicians try replacing the fuel tanks and modules, replacing the electrical power distribution boxes and making sure no loose battery connections exist.

However, owners report the repairs don’t stop the engines from dying in the middle of the roads.

The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is reportedly an updated version of the Chrysler Town & Country, with a 9-speed automatic transmission and a “gearbox lifted from the Chrysler 200 sedan.”

If you own a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica and have experienced similar problems, you may be entitled to compensation or other remedy.  Call Howard Gutman at (973) 598-1980 for a free consultation on your problem.

9 Speed Transmission Recall

businessman signing a contract

There have been multiple recalls, service bulletins, and  changes in the 9 speed transmission to address serious problems.

Jeep and Land Rover showed the first nine-speed  automatic transmissions of the world  at the 2013 Nobel Geneva Motor Show  with the  Jeep Cherokee 2014 the first nine-speed automatic transmission commercially available.

1. Recall

Automotive supplier ZF is recalling a control sensor found on nine-speed automatic transmissions used in over 500,000 vehicles. Fiat Chrysler, Honda and Land Rover models are affected.   The transmission can shift into neutral at any speed or gear because of an insufficient crimp on a wiring harness attached to the sensor cluster. Models affected include the 2014-16 Jeep Cherokee, 2015-16 Jeep Renegade, 2015-17 Chrysler 200, 2015-16 RAM ProMaster City, 2016 Fiat 500X, 2014-17 Range Rover Evoque, 2015-17 Land Rover Discovery, 2015-17 Acura TLX (V6) and certain trims of the 2015-16 Honda Pilot.

2. Software Changes and Updates

A Feb. 2015 story explains.

Now the automaker is offering a solution by way of software updates. The reprogramming of vehicle computers is said to cure issues of “hard shifts, lunging, unexpected disengagement of the transmission, and repeated illumination of malfunction lights.” Those complaints come directly from customers filing reports on the safecar.gov website.

FCA U.S. will begin to notify owners of 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokees along with owners of some 2015 Chrysler 200s powered by the 2.4-liter four-cylinder that the reprogrammed software is available at dealerships. In an interview with Automotive News, an FCA U.S. spokeswoman said the updated transmission software is “intended to keep the vehicle performing as intended, and to prevent durability issues from occurring in the future.”

This is hardly the first issue  had with the nine-speed unit. The Cherokee’s original launch was delayed three months. http://www.topspeed.com/trucks/truck-news/jeep-cherokee-gets-software-update-for-problems-with-the-nine-speed-automatic-transmission-ar167506.html

My daughter  has a 2014 Altima while driving the engine will over rev (sometimes red lining) but lose speed especially during times of high humidity or rain events ( as a matter of fact every time ) Wright Nissan of Wexford, PA. says no code, can not duplicate. now mind you this has been in the shop now for the fourth time. even though maybe a fuel issue but this time it was full and it was recorded trying to make a left from full stop onto a side road (25MPH) and it couldn’t do it.
