Nissan Altima’s CVT Transmission Problems: Consumer Reports

https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/index.htmIn an article from October 2015, Consumer Reports reports on the emergence of problems with Nissan’s new version of their CVT transmission.  Fast forward two years later and this prediction came to pass.  Nissan’s consumer confidence and vehicle reliability has taken a hit because of issues with the 2013 and 2014 version of the CVT transmission.  Customers complain of shuddering, jerking, sluggishness, and other problems in their Nissans with this transmission, particularly in 2013 and 2014 Altimas.

car-1751750_960_720“’We’ve seen a number of brands struggle with new transmission technology, ‘ said Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports’ director of automotive testing. ‘Whether it’s a complex system such as a dual-clutch gearbox, a continuously variable transmission, or one with eight or nine speeds. Many vehicles require repair and replacements because of rough shifting among the gears and slipping CVT belts.'”

2014 Chevrolet Silverado Transmission Problems

Chevrolet Silverado have experienced multiple transmission problems.   Here is a typical complaint from a GM Forum.   http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f53/2014-silverado-transmission-problems-164881/index9.html

Owners may be entitled to compensation for repair costs and diminished value.

Suddenly, the transmission does not seem to know which gear it is supposed to be in; between 20 and 50 mph. Plus, when it shifts, sometimes it does with a huge jolt. The most common and most concerning safety wise is; starting off in traffic; when the traffic starts, slows, then speeds up again, I press the accelerator, ease off the accelerator and back on, it does not respond (feels like it has jumped to 4th or 5th gear), the engine can’t pull it. I have no choice but to press on the gas more and maybe a little more; then, boom, it shifts, the rpm’s shoot up, the truck jumps forward. First, it’s concerning safety wise. If the vehicles in front happens to slow and my truck jumps at the wrong time, there’s potentially an accident. Second, it can’t be good on the drive train. Third, there is no way to have a smooth take off when it does it. There are other times and situations when it unpredictably shifts up or down and is not smooth nor consistent with the gear needed, again creating unsafe and rough driving. The dealer tells me that it is operating within limits and ALL these trucks are having transmission problems. But, there is nothing they can do about it. Their recommendation is drive it and continue to bring it back if it continues and they will do the same checks on it. This is not a satisfactory answer and not the quality that I expect out of GM.

Acura 9 Speed Transmission Problems

Lemon law claims ladyThere are multiple reports of problems with the 9 speed transmission on the Acura MDX.  Here are typical complaints,

“I had a 2016 Acura MDX with this transmission…the 4 to 5 gear he talks about is true… it felt like losing power for a second when i tried to accelerate. i REALLY HATE this transmission and the way it feels. I sold the car after 4 months of ownership. Thats how much I hated this transmission.

This doesn´t explain all the issues this transmission is having with absolute shite gear shifts… The Acura MDX that uses this trans is a big example, terrible transmission software makes it feel worse than the 6 speed it replaces.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7EMGnjEhmE

There are a number of complaints about the Dodge 2014 Jeep Cherokee transmission and our office is handling a class action involving this problem.  A typical complaint, “First at highway speed it was very (very) hard to accelerate when you wanted to change line and make pass. It took ridiculous long time to downshift and found the necessary power.”

2010 Ford Escape with brake and transmission problems

The model range was also simplified, with only a single specification available. Changes to the body included an all-new front bumper, grille, headlights and bonnet, featuring an enlarged Ford emblem set upon a three-bar chrome grille. At the rear, new, slimmer tail lights were featured, which were arranged horizontally, rather than vertically. In addition, the B-pillar was now painted black, rather than body-colour. Compared with the previous model, all external bumpers, mirrors, and cladding were painted the same colour as the body (previously, this was only available on the upscale Limited model). Equipment levels have also improved. Compared to the base model ZC Escape, the ZD included standard side airbags, automatic climate control, 16″ alloy wheels, and mirrors with integrated indicators. Unlike most other competitors in its class, curtain airbags and electronic stability control were not available. Chrome trim was completely removed from the grille, replaced with a smaller, black honeycomb grille as the last ever Ford Escape. In its final years, it was sold side by side with its successor, Ford Kuga until the Kuga replaced it in 2013. There is a transmission TSB out there that might have helped but since they are replacing the PCM ( or whatever they are replacing) it will likely have the most recent software. The brakes also have a TSB out there. Basically, they will replace both front pads and rotors due to grinding etc. I would just tell them that the brakes grind and make awful sounds when going in reverse etc. They should just replace them, unless that TSB was already done.

I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE I HAVE SEEN MANAU WITH SIMILAR ISSUES AND THEY ARE ALL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR. ALSO MY CAR MADE A TERRIBLE GROWLING NOISE AND I HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED. PLEASE HELP GET THESE INVESTIGATED IT’S TERRIBLE. NEVER AGAIN WILL I PURCHASE A DODGE OR ADVISE ANYONE TO DO SO. WOULD BE A GREAT CAR IF IT DIDN’T ALWAYS HAVE THESE ISSUES. JUST WANT PROBLEMS ADDRESSED FOR ALL OWNERS SO THEY CAN ENJOY A CAR THEY BOUGHT WITH THEIR FAMILIES.

Ford ecoboost transmission problem (various vehicles)

MODEL: Ford ecoboost
Problem: Transmission

SUMMARY: Let me start this off by stating that I bought my 2011 F150 Platinum Eco-boost 4×4 on May 20, 2011…I traded in a 2008 King Ranch 4×4 because I fell in love with the look of the Platinum the interior look and comfort…BIGGEST MISTAKE I EVER MADE!!! The fuel economy, fuel gauge, black smoke, and worse the transmission hard shifting in both starting and stopping…BUT the worse experience has been with FORD and their consumer affairs department. They are rude, do not return calls (to me or the Service Manager at the dealership)…This will be my last Ford!!!

This is the detailed list I had to send my attorney, and yes it has unfortunately gotten to the point where I am having to sue Ford to take this vehicle back…They denied a problem with the transmission, then after the reprogram failed, again went back to the excuse, “it reprograms itself based on “driver tendency”…what a load of BS! This vehicle has stalled on me TWICE when coming to a stop!!!

This Friday, December 9, 2011, I had to have the vehicle towed back into the dealership for the 4th time since September…South Carolina Lemon Law allows a total of 30 days in the shop and/or 3 attempts to fix an issue. 5 times with the electronics and gauges NO FIX…5 times about the transmission NO FIX…54 days out of service, BEFORE it was towed in a couple of days ago NO FIX!!!

My fear after seeing the problems everyone else is having is that this is going to lead to a Class Action Suit against Ford and it’s going to take forever for me to get a resolution on my vehicle…I’m already 7 months in and I don’t drive the truck because I am scared of it stopping or continuing to roll in park…
